An endoscope uses a tiny camera to look inside the body without surgery
An endoscope is a long tube with a camera attached to it, and it allows the veterinarian to see inside the body without surgery. It can be used to examine the inside of the ears, nose, esophagus, stomach, intestines and bladder.
Why might your pet need an endoscopy? A common reason is if your pet has swallowed a toy, bone, or other foreign body. Sometimes these items can be retrieved without the need for surgery. If your pet has a disease that requires visualization and/or biopsies of the gastrointestinal tract, nasal passages and ears for an accurate diagnosis, the endoscope allows us to do this without traditional surgery. This means less pain and a faster recovery for your pet.
For your pet’s comfort and safety, endoscopy does require that they be placed under anesthesia. Please read our descriptions under Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring for more information on what we do to keep your pet safe.
Endoscopic procedures are performed in our hospital by Dr. Eugene Gorodetsky on a referral basis. An experienced emergency and critical care veterinarian, Dr Gorodetsky has been providing mobile endoscopy services to veterinary clinics around the lower mainland for the last 8 – 10 years.
