Kitten Wellness

How can your kitten benefit from preventative wellness exams?

The first few months of you kitten’s life are critical to his/her health and development. We will give you all the tools and support you need to care for your kitten, including information on nutrition, litter box training, behaviour, grooming, dental care and preventative wellness.

Your kitten’s first wellness should be scheduled when they are eight weeks old, or as soon as you bring them home.

If your kitten has received vaccinations and deworming from their breeder, they should still come in for a wellness visit. Your veterinarian will make sure that your kitten has finished a complete series of booster vaccines, and will also do a complete physical exam to ensure that they do not have any health issues. It is extremely common for kittens to have parasites, so your veterinarian may prescribe a dewormer and a parasite preventative. Common parasites include round worms, fleas, and ear mites.

Until your kitten is fully vaccinated, you should keep them indoors, and away from potentially unprotected cats. Your kitten will be scheduled for two or three wellness visits (depending on age and vaccine status), after which they will be fully vaccinated for one year. They should return at 6 months of age to be spayed/neutered, and then annually for wellness exams an vaccine boosters.

We look forward to meeting your new kitten!
